29 June 2026, CANBERRA – Philippine Ambassador to Australia, H.E. Antonio Morales, joined the ASEAN Committee in Canberra (ACC) in a meeting with Minister for Home Affairs, Arts, Cyber Security, Immigration and Citizenship Hon Tony Burke MP to discuss cooperation on migration, cyber security, and regional security issues.

The meeting highlighted the importance of ensuring safe and orderly migration and enhancing collaboration to address emerging cyber and transnational security challenges.

Ambassador Morales conveyed appreciation for Australia’s support for the Philippines’ ASEAN Chairship in 2026. He also underscored the significance of the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Australia.

The meeting recognized the growing interconnectedness of terrorism, cybercrime, and other cross-border threats, and emphasized the value of closer cooperation through information-sharing, capacity-building, and strengthened border security.

As ASEAN’s first Dialogue Partner and Comprehensive Strategic Partner, Australia plays an important role in advancing regional cooperation. With the Philippines’ ASEAN Chairship in 2026, the meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment to advancing a resilient, inclusive, and secure region.
