19 June 2026, CAMPBELLTOWN, NEW SOUTH WALES – Philippine Ambassador to Australia H.E. Antonio A. Morales attended a Flag Raising Ceremony commemorating the 128th Anniversary of Philippine Independence and a Wreath-Laying Ceremony marking the 165th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal at the Rizal Park in Campbelltown. The event was also attended by Consul General Greg Marie Mariño of the Philippine Consulate General in Sydney, Australian officials, community leaders, and members of the Filipino-Australian community.

Mr. Greg Warren MP, State Member for Campbelltown and Councillor Masood Chowdhury, representing Campbelltown Mayor Darcy Lound, also joined the ceremony.

The event was organized by the Rizal Park Movement of Campbelltown (RPMC), the Campbelltown and Region Filipino Community Council (CRFCC), and the Order of the Knights of Rizal – Southern Sydney Chapter.

In his address, Ambassador Morales reflected on the significance of the Independence Day theme, "Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan.", which honors the sacrifices of those who fought for Philippine freedom while underscoring the role of history in shaping the nation's future.

Paying tribute to Dr. Jose Rizal, the Ambassador highlighted the enduring relevance of the national hero's ideals, noting that "more than a century later, Rizal's legacy reminds us that genuine patriotism is best expressed through service to one's community, compassion, awareness, and commitment to the common good."

Ambassador Morales also recognized the contributions of the Filipino community in Australia, whose achievements and community engagement continue to promote Philippine culture and strengthen people-to-people ties between the Philippines and Australia as both countries celebrate the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026.

The Ambassador expressed appreciation to the Rizal Park Movement of Campbelltown, the Campbelltown and Region Filipino Community Council, the Order of the Knights of Rizal, the Kababaihang Rizalista, and the Campbelltown City Council for organizing the commemorative activities and for their continued efforts to promote Philippine heritage in Australia.

Following the flag-raising ceremony, Ambassador Morales led the wreath-laying rites at the monument of Dr. Jose Rizal together with Consul General Greg Marie Mariño. Community leaders and members of Filipino-Australian organizations subsequently paid tribute to the Philippine national hero. - END
