16 September 2026, HOBART – Ambassador Antonio Morales, together with Consul General Jesus Gary Domingo, met with TasTAFE officials led by CEO Dr. Norman Baker and Filipino international students and alumni during an official visit to Tasmania.

Ambassador Morales discussed opportunities to strengthen links between TasTAFE and Philippine institutions, including through articulation pathways, skills recognition, short courses, microcredentials, online and blended learning, and faculty exchanges.

TasTAFE provided a briefing on its international programs and vocational education and training offerings. Tasmania’s public VET provider offers more than 200 courses across areas including nursing and healthcare, hospitality and tourism, community services, information technology, business, engineering and laboratory technology. TasTAFE has also recently established links with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to explore areas for further cooperation on skills development.

Filipino international students and alumni shared their experiences at TasTAFE, including pathways from study to work and the employment opportunities available after graduation. Their experiences highlighted the value of vocational education and training for international students seeking to build skills and careers in Tasmania.

The delegation also toured TasTAFE’s Drysdale Campus and viewed a cookery demonstration by a Filipino international student which showcased the industry-focused training offered by the institution.

As of May 2026, 145 Filipino international students were studying in Tasmania, making the Philippines the State’s 9th largest international student group. - END
