16 September 2026, HOBART – Ambassador Antonio Morales met with CBG Systems Managing Director Javier Herbon in Tasmania to discuss the company’s engagement with the Philippines and opportunities for deeper commercial and technical cooperation.

CBG Systems has an established relationship with Austal Philippines in supplying specialized technologies for vessels built in Cebu. The company contributes to the development of local technical skills through its deployment of engineers to the Philippines for extended periods to work alongside and train local personnel in installation and commissioning.

Ambassador Morales highlighted the Philippines’ interest in strengthening its shipbuilding and maritime industries and working with Australian companies with advanced capabilities. He underscored that defence and maritime cooperation are important pillars of the Strategic Partnership of the Philippines and Australia.

Mr. Herbon outlined CBG Systems’ experience across commercial and defence-related applications, including fire protection and communications, among others. He also shared the company’s interest in expanding its presence in the Indo-Pacific, including potential manufacturing and engineering operations in the region. CBG Systems’ longstanding connections with Tasmanian shipbuilders, including Incat, and its work with Austal have supported its expansion into international markets.

The engagement reflects the growth in deepening the bilateral defence and maritime cooperation of the Philippines and Australia. The two countries signed a MOU on Enhanced Maritime Cooperation in February 2024. Australia is the Philippines’ second-largest defence and security partner. -END
