04 May 2026, CANBERRA - Philippine Ambassador Antonio Morales met with Hon. Pat Conroy MP, Minister for Defence Industry and Minister for Pacific Island Affairs, at Parliament House to reaffirm the robust defence cooperation between the Philippines and Australia under the Strategic Partnership as both countries mark the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year.
Ambassador Morales highlighted the steady growth of bilateral defence engagement, including the Philippines’ participation in joint military exercises and other practical initiatives that enhance interoperability and contribute to regional stability. Both sides welcomed the increasing pace of defence cooperation as a reflection of mutual trust and a shared commitment to a peaceful, secure, and prosperous Indo-Pacific.
Minister Conroy underscored the strength of bilateral defence ties and welcomed continued collaboration through existing bilateral and regional mechanisms. He also acknowledged the Filipino community’s significant contributions to Australia and its role in strengthening people-to-people links between the two countries.
The two officials discussed regional developments, economic resilience, diversifying supply chains, support for a rules-based international order, maritime security, ASEAN centrality, and enhanced cooperation among Indo-Pacific partners. Ambassador Morales outlined the Philippines’ priorities during its ASEAN Chairship and expressed appreciation for Australia’s continued support.
The Philippines and Australia, have a robust defense and security cooperation program that covers a range of activities in counter-terrorism, maritime security and humanitarian assistance and disaster response.- END
