22 April 2026, MELBOURNE - Ambassador Antonio Morales and Consul General Gary Domingo met senior officials from the University of Melbourne led by Pro Vice-Chancellor (Global) Professor Frank Vetere alongside senior academics from the Faculties of Engineering and Information Technology and Science to explore opportunities to advance education and research partnerships and enhancing student experience.
Ambassador Morales stated that “the Philippines values its growing partnership with the University of Melbourne, which not only supports Filipino students in pursuing excellence overseas but also contributes to strengthening our education and research sectors at home. By working together in areas such as STEM and academic mobility, we are creating opportunities for meaningful and lasting impact.”
The Ambassador underscored the vital role of Filipino and other international students in enriching university communities through their contributions to research, and innovation collaboration. He welcomed the University’s continued collaboration with leading Philippine institutions, including the University of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila University through joint initiatives in conservation science, public policy, and cultural heritage.
The University of Melbourne reaffirmed its commitment to deepening engagement with the Philippines as part of its global outlook. Filipino scholars also shared their experiences, highlighting the University’s collaborative research environment and their work to improve communities in the Philippines.
Ambassador Morales also met with the Master of the University of Melbourne’s Ormond College, Dr Areti Metuamate, together with Filipino international students, to discuss student engagement and welfare.
There are approximately 200 Filipino international students currently enrolled at the University of Melbourne, the majority undertaking studies in STEM and commerce, with established pathways including dual degree opportunities in law. -END
