11 August 2026, CANBERRA - The Philippine Embassy in Australia led by Minister and Consul General Sheila Tario met with officials of the Australian Department of Social Services (DSS) to explore opportunities on the portability of social security. Consul General Tario underscored the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Philippines-Australia diplomatic relations and the contributions of the more than 400,000 Filipinos and Australians of Filipino descent to the Strategic Partnership.
The meeting also built on the Embassy’s previous engagement with the DSS and the Philippine Social Security System (SSS), including an online information session held in 2024 on the social security systems of Australia and the Philippines.
The DSS provided an overview of Australia’s existing arrangements governing the payment of the Age Pension to eligible recipients residing overseas and shared information on relevant requirements and procedures for pensioners living outside Australia.
Both sides reaffirmed the importance of continued engagement and information-sharing on social security matters of interest to the Filipino community.
