Organized by Pink Filipiniana Inc., led by its President, Ms. Josie Cervantes-Musa, the event brought together community leaders, medical professionals, breast cancer survivors, and advocates to raise awareness of breast cancer, promote early detection, and encourage regular health screening.
In her remarks on behalf of Ambassador Antonio A. Morales, Consul General Tario commended Pink Filipiniana for its efforts to advance women's health and mobilize the Filipino community in support of individuals and families affected by breast cancer.
Drawing from her family's personal experience with breast cancer, Consul General Tario emphasized the importance of early detection, regular screening, and strong family and community support systems, including mental health support.
She also highlighted the significant contributions of Filipino community organizations to the enduring friendship between the Philippines and Australia, particularly as the two countries commemorate the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026.
In her welcome remarks, Ms. Musa outlined Pink Filipiniana's mission to empower women through breast cancer awareness, early detection, and community outreach. She also emphasized the organization's commitment to improving access to breast screening and supporting families affected by the disease.
Blacktown City Councillor Julie Griffiths AM, Chair of the Women's Advisory Committee and Pink Up Blacktown, commended the organizers for bringing the community together in support of breast cancer awareness. She encouraged regular screening and underscored the importance of community solidarity in helping those affected by cancer.
The event also featured presentations by medical professionals and health advocates on breast cancer awareness and screening. Pink Filipiniana shared its aspirations to promote greater access to breast health services, including among underserved communities in the Philippines.
