Philippine Ambassador to Australia Joins Filipino Communities in New South Wales in Commemorating the 124th Anniversary of Philippine Independence Day

17 June 2022 – H.E. Ma. Hellen B. De La Vega joined the Filipino community in New South Wales in celebrating the 124th Anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence on 12 and 13 June 2022.

The Philippine Communities Council of New South Wales (NSW), the peak body of Filipino communities in NSW headed by Mr. Cesar Bartolome, hosted a gala event on 12 June 2022 to commemorate Philippine National Day.

On 13 June 2022, the Association of Philippine Community Council Organization (APCO) led by Mr. Edgar Escultura organized a Freedom Ball also to commemorate Philippine Independence.

The State of New South Wales hosts the largest concentration of Filipinos in Australia. In her remarks, Ambassador De La Vega lauded the Filipino community in New South Wales and their significant contribution to the cultural diversity and progress of Australia. During the pandemic, many Filipino and Filipino-Australian served as frontliners who ensured the continued provision of public services in the country. The Ambassador also urged the various Filipino organizations to work in unison to further promote the strength and influence of community. Ambassador De La Vega and Hon.
