Philippine Ambassador Joins ASEAN Awareness Program and Promotes 75th Anniversary of PH-AU Relations in Tasmania

09 March 2021 (Tasmania) – H.E. Ma. Hellen B. De La Vega, Ambassador of the Philippines to Australia, joined the ASEAN Committee in Canberra and the Australia ASEAN Council on a Visit Programme to Hobart and Launceston in Tasmania on 28 February to 03 March 2021. The Visit Programme organized by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) supported deepening the engagement between ASEAN Member States and Tasmania and raising awareness on ASEAN.

Ambassador De La Vega also promoted the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Australia during meetings with high-level officials including Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Kate Warner, Governor of Tasmania and Deputy Premier Jeremy Rockliff MP, business leaders and the University of Tasmania.

During the visit, the Philippine Embassy in Canberra pursued an exploratory discussion with the Asia Institute of the University of Tasmania on a possible collaborative activity to promote Philippines-Australia relations and with Tourism Tasmania on tourism practices amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ambassador De Le Vega shared the potential for enhancing relations between the Philippines and Tasmania particularly in the shipbuilding industry, in trade, and in people-to-people exchanges through academic institutions. END
