23 July 2025, Canberra – The Philippines in Canberra joined the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Missions in Australia in the commemoration of the 58th anniversary of ASEAN on 23 July 2025. The ASEAN Day Reception was attended by over 250 guests, including members of the diplomatic corps, senior representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, as well as representatives from Australia’s government, private and academic sectors.
Ambassador of Thailand H.E. Arjaree Sriratanaban, as Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Canberra (ACC), delivered a speech underscoring the importance of ASEAN in promoting regional peace and stability, economic growth and socio-cultural connection in the region in navigating changes and challenges. She also highlighted ASEAN’s pathway towards a resilient, innovative, dynamic, and people-centered Community in line with the ASEAN Community Vision 2045.
The Ambassador also looked forward to further strengthening cooperation between ASEAN and Australia to increase trade and investment, tackle transnational crime and harness opportunities in AI and cybersecurity, digital transformation, climate change, energy transition, sustainability, agriculture and food security, and human resources development.
Australia became ASEAN’s first Dialogue Partner in 1974 and ASEAN’s first ever Comprehensive Strategic Partner in 2021. The Philippines will assume the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2026. - END
