14 May 2026, CANBERRA – Philippine Ambassador to Australia H.E. Antonio Morales met with Hon. Josh Wilson MP, Australia’s Assistant Minister for Climate Change and Energy and Assistant Minister for Emergency Management, at Parliament House on 14 May 2026.
The meeting discussed opportunities to further strengthen Philippines–Australia cooperation on energy, climate, and sustainable development, including the Philippines’ target of increasing the share of renewable energy to 35 percent by 2030.
Ambassador Morales underscored the Philippines’ renewable energy transition agenda and ongoing efforts to expand renewable energy deployment. Both sides expressed interest in further deepening cooperation in renewable energy, energy security, and sustainable development.
Assistant Minister Wilson shared Australia’s experience in navigating the challenges of the energy transition, while highlighting its benefits, including improved energy security, and enhanced long-term sustainability.
The two sides exchanged views on the impacts of climate change and its growing effects on the region, particularly on the Philippines and the Pacific, as well as the role of the renewable energy transition in advancing climate change mitigation efforts.
They likewise exchanged views on regional and multilateral issues, including ocean governance, the Philippines’ ASEAN Chairship, and broader regional cooperation. END
