16 September 2026, HOBART – Ambassador Antonio Morales, together with Consul General Jesus Gary Domingo, met the Governor of Tasmania, Her Excellency the Honourable Caroline Wells, and Dr. Rob Walters PFD at a reception at Government House.

The reception brought together representatives from Tourism Tasmania, TasFarmers, Tasmanian Government Education International, the Department of Police, Tasmanian Defence Industry, as well as local businesses in the agriculture and technology sectors to explore new ways to strengthen connections between the Philippines and Tasmania.

Ambassador Morales noted that the Strategic Partnership provides a strong foundation for deepening cooperation between the Philippines and Tasmania, in areas such as renewable energy, education, technology and maritime capabilities. He highlighted Tasmania’s expertise in renewable energy, the opportunities for collaboration with the University of Tasmania, and the potential to build on Tasmania’s advanced maritime and shipbuilding capabilities.

Ambassador Morales also highlighted the growing presence of Philippine investment in Australia, including ACEN’s solar and wind projects, as well as the strong and expanding trade and investment relationship.

In reflecting on the significance of 80 years of Philippines-Australia diplomatic relations, the Ambassador highlighted the role of the Filipino community as an important bridge in deepening the relations. With their backgrounds in medicine, Governor Wells and Dr. Walters acknowledged the important contributions that Filipino Australians make to Tasmania’s healthcare and aged-care sectors. - END
