15 September 2026, HOBART – Ambassador Antonio Morales and Consul General Jesus Gary Domingo visited Muir Engineering, a Tasmanian manufacturer of marine anchoring, mooring and docking equipment, where they met with Executive Chairman Andrew Buckley and General Manager Max Buckley to discuss the company’s growing presence in the Philippines and prospects for deeper maritime industry cooperation.
Muir Engineering has an expanding customer base in the Philippines, including Austal and DM8 Composites in Cebu. The company was recognized as the 2026 Marine Industry Innovation of the Year at the Australian Marine Industry Awards.
Ambassador Morales emphasized the potential for Philippine and Tasmanian maritime industries to build commercial and technical connections and support innovation. He highlighted the Philippines’ position as a major seafaring nation and growing shipbuilding and maritime services hub, and its interest in strengthening links with Australian companies with specialized capabilities.
He noted that collaboration with Muir could extend beyond equipment supply to technical engagement with Philippine stakeholders in anchoring and mooring systems, vessel design, equipment standards, and maintenance and sustainment.
The discussion also touched on the potential to build on the Philippines’ skilled maritime and shipbuilding workforce through training and technology transfer. With the country’s marine manufacturing sector becoming increasingly specialized, partnerships with companies such as Muir could support the development of expertise in the manufacture and maintenance of marine components.
During the visit, Mr. Andrew Buckley and Mr. Max Buckley toured the delegation through Muir Engineering’s facility. They showcased its range of winches and marine equipment for large vessels, catamarans and ferries, as well as its capabilities in both customized and standard production. - END
