24 August 2026, PERTH — Philippine Ambassador to Australia Antonio A. Morales met with Western Australia Premier Roger Cook at Dumas House in Perth to discuss potential areas of cooperation.

The Premier discussed opportunities for cooperation with the Philippines in energy and trade. He welcomed the Philippine renewable energy company ACEN’s partnership with the Yindjibarndi Energy Corporation, which is developing renewable energy projects in the Pilbara. He also noted the increase in the number of flights between Perth and the Philippines and the potential to strengthen two-way trade and economic links.

Building on these areas of cooperation, Ambassador Morales highlighted Western Australia’s significant mineral resources and expertise in the sector, and identified opportunities for greater Australian investment and partnerships with the Philippines in sustainable mining, minerals processing, and critical minerals.

Premier Cook also highlighted Western Australia’s strong network of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions. Ambassador Morales noted the ongoing initiatives between the Philippines and Western Australia on skills development and recognition, and expressed appreciation for the Premier’s support in advancing cooperation in this area.

Philippine Honorary Consul in Perth Melissa Aguasa shared initiatives to promote Perth as a study destination for Filipino students. She also highlighted other initiatives being pursued by the Honorary Consulate in partnership with the Western Australian Government.

Ambassador Morales also shared the history of the Manilamen in Broome, who contributed to the development of Western Australia’s pearling industry from the 19th century. Premier Cook underscored the significance of recognizing and commemorating the contribution of the Manilamen as part of Western Australia’s history.

The Premier also acknowledged the contributions of the Filipino-Australians in Western Australia, which is home to more than 37,000 people of Filipino heritage who contribute to the State’s economy and its communities. END
