Ms. Ruth Carlos-Martinez, President of the Rotary Club of Brighton Beach in Victoria has been selected as one of the recipients of the Lingkod sa Kapwa Pilipino Award (Lingkapil) for the 2010 Presidential Awards for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas.

Ms. Carlos-Martinez, an active leader of the Filipino community, is the lone nominee from Australia chosen to be a recipient of one of the 2010 Presidential Awards.

The Lingkapil Award is bestowed to Filipino individuals or associations that contributed significantly to the reconstruction, progress and development of the Philippines.

Ms. Carlos-Martinez will join twenty-three other awardees during the ceremonies to be held at the Malacanang Palace on 14 December 2010.  No less than President Benigno S. Aquino III will confer the awards on the recipients.

The other awardees are from the United States, Hong Kong, South Korea, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Germany and Canada.

The Presidential Awards for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas is a biennial awards system institutionalized through Executive Order 498 signed by former President Corazon C. Aquino in 1991. It recognizes the achievements and significant contributions of Filipino individuals and organizations overseas to communities in the Philippines and abroad. The awarding ceremony is one of the highlight activities during the celebration of the Overseas Filipinos Month and International Migrants Day every December.
