Boracay Island, one of the Philippines’ most famous tourist destinations will be featured on Getaway, Australia's longest-running holiday and travel television programme this Saturday, 30 July 2011. The show will air on Channel 9 at 5:30pm (AEST), with Australian-Filipino singer Kate Ceberano presenting the Boracay segment.
Located in the province of Aklan, Boracy is acclaimed as the best beach in the world. Roughly shape like a dumbbell, it is 7 kilometers, with its narrowest part nearly 1 kilometer wide.
There are two primary tourism beaches in Boracay Island: the White Beach (also called Long Beach by the locals) in the west, and Bulabog Beach in the east.
Known for its pristine white sand beaches and dramatic sunset, Boracay has been a summer haven for both Philippine and foreign tourists. Visitors can engage in a wide range of activities such as swimming, snorkelling, kiteboarding, and windsurfing.
Since Boracay caters to both local and foreign tourists, the island’s facilities are equipped with all the necessary amenities to satisfy the needs of their guests including hotels, resorts, restaurants and bars, banking facilities, shopping centers and telecommunication services.
Getaway had previously featured two other Philippine destinations this year: Antique on 11 June and El Nido, Palawan on 2 July. Those who missed these episodes can view them on the following website: http://getaway.ninemsn.com.au/. The story on Boracay will likewise be shown online following its airing this Saturday.
The Philippine Embassy extends its thanks to the Department of Tourism Office in Sydney for organizing the trip for the Getaway film crew to Boracay, Antique, and Palawan (El Nido), in cooperation with Philippine Air Lines, the Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts in Manila and Boracay and the Miniloc Resort in El Nido.
